🔧About the Technology

escwasd is a suite of free, browser-based hardware testing tools for mechanical keyboards, mice, and gaming peripherals. Every test runs entirely in your browser: no downloads, no accounts, no pop-ups — open a page and start testing. Under the hood, the suite is built on standard Web APIs. KeyboardEvent and PointerEvent listeners capture every physical key press and mouse button event in real time, while requestAnimationFrame and performance.now() provide the sub-millisecond timing that latency and polling-rate measurements depend on. The keyboard ghosting test tracks the full keydown/keyup event stream to measure how many keys your mechanical keyboard registers at once and whether any key combinations drop inputs. The mouse double click test counts click events against your physical presses to expose worn microswitches — the classic cause of phantom double clicks on heavily used Logitech and Razer mice. The mouse polling rate test measures how often your device reports its position, and the latency tests estimate the delay between a physical actuation and the moment the browser receives the event. Three principles define how the tools behave. First, accuracy: every measurement is derived from raw hardware event streams, not simulated timers, so the numbers reflect what your device actually does. Second, privacy: all tests run locally in your browser and no hardware data is uploaded to any server. Third, honesty: when a result can be caused by technique rather than hardware — drag clicking in Minecraft, for example — the tools say so instead of flagging it as a defect. The suite is organized into three families. Keyboard tools cover stuck or dead keys, ghosting and N-key rollover, input latency, keys-per-second, and automatic keypress detection that separates human input from macros. Mouse tools cover button response, double-click faults, polling rate, cursor latency, accuracy tracking, and mousepad glide. Esports tools combine these into APM-style measurements for competitive play. Every tool is available in ten languages, works in any desktop browser without installation, and is verified against real hardware — from budget membrane boards to high-end mechanical keyboards — before it ships.
