Overview

Are all the keys on your keyboard working properly? Worried that a newly purchased mechanical keyboard might have hidden defects, or that an old keyboard you've used for years occasionally has a key that doesn't respond? Don't rush to replace the hardware. This free online keyboard testing tool lets you quickly check every key right in your browser: each press is highlighted, making issues like double-clicking, stuck keys, or key conflicts instantly visible. No registration or download requiredโ€”just open the webpage and start using it.

How to Use

  1. Select your keyboard layout (full-size 104 or 65% compact)
  2. Press each key on the keyboard in sequence to test
  3. Observe whether the corresponding position on the on-screen keyboard highlights
  4. Check the 'Currently Pressed' area to confirm multi-key simultaneous response
  5. Locate malfunctioning keys through 'Total Keys' and 'Unique Keys' statistics

Feature Details

The keyboard testing tool is a pure browser-based online application that requires no software installation. It listens to the keydown and keyup events when you press and release keys, highlighting the corresponding key positions on the screen in real time, allowing you to visually see which keys are correctly recognized.

The tool records the total number of key presses, the number of unique keys pressed, and a list of currently held keys, making it convenient to test the response when multiple keys are pressed simultaneously. Whether you have a full-size 104-key keyboard or a 65% compact layout, you can switch between two visual keyboard representations.

If you suspect a key is malfunctioning, sticking, or double-registering (registering multiple inputs from a single press), simply press each key in sequence and observe the on-screen feedback. For gamers, this tool can also help check whether your keyboard supports N-key rollover (NKRO)โ€”if no keys remain unlit when multiple keys are pressed simultaneously, your keyboard has good rollover capability.

Applicable scenarios include new keyboard acceptance testing, used mechanical keyboard inspection, functional verification after cleaning, and daily troubleshooting. All data is processed locally, and no key press records are uploaded.

FAQ

Can the keyboard tester detect key chattering (double-click)?

Yes. Slowly press and release each key one by one. If the corresponding key on the screen flashes more than twice during a single press, or if the 'Total Keys' count increases multiple times, the key has a chattering issue. This is usually caused by oxidation of the mechanical switch or contact wear.

Why do some keys not light up when pressing multiple keys simultaneously?

This is key ghosting. The circuit matrix of a regular keyboard has scanning limitations. When the number of simultaneously pressed keys exceeds the hardware limit, some keys cannot be recognized. If your gaming keyboard supports N-Key Rollover (NKRO), this issue will not occur.

Does this tool require downloading or installation?

Not at all. The keyboard tester is a pure web application. All testing is done in your current browser, and no key data is uploaded. Open the webpage to start testing. It supports Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chromebook.

Can the Command and Option keys on Mac be tested?

Yes. Standard keyboard keys such as Command (Meta), Option (Alt), Control, and Shift can all be detected normally. However, some special function keys on the Touch Bar may not trigger keydown events. An external standard keyboard supports all keys.
